The Massachusetts FOCUS Academy (MFA) is offering nine (9) graduate level online or hybrid courses: Fall Semester 2016: November 7, 2016 - February 27, 2017. Applications must be received by Friday, September 30th at 5:00 p.m.

PreK-12 Educators
WSU Online Courses: “Understanding Academic Language to Improve Content Area Instruction for ELLs,” “Instructional Strategies for Exceptional Learners,” and “Understanding Diversity and Cultural Competency to Support ELL students in the Schools.”  Each 15 hours course meets the 15 PDP requirements for license renewal, and with pre-registration, can be accessed at any time throughout the school year, through June 30, 2017!

15 Hour Self-Paced, Science Content Area Course - Exploring Physical and Biological Relationships to Improve Content Instruction in Population and Evolutionary Biology: This course is offered the first of every month.  Participants have one month to successfully complete the course. Course cost: $150 for 15 PDPs.  Registration form is on the WSU website.

WMWP: Demystifying Disciplinary Literacy Standards: This free seminar will provide opportunities to discuss how disciplinary literacy is developed, share resources, and identify next steps in the process.  Topics include  Argument Writing, Close Reading, and Socratic Seminar.  Registration is required online at  
November 10th 4:00 – 6:30 pm at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, 617 Montgomery Street, Chicopee.

Science Teachers 
Grades 4-12
WMWP: Science Literacy / Literacy in Science Leadership Institute Course Participants will work with the new STE framework to learn ways to effectively incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening to teach the disciplines of science, technology, and engineering. You will learn and practice strategies to teach science literacy and create model science lessons. Westfield has secured 8 seats in this course at no cost to you! Graduate credit is available through UMASS.  
Thursdays, October 20 – April 6, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at North Middle School
